The Post and Telegraph building of Alessandria was built between 1939 and 1941 to a drawing by the architect Franco Petrucci, a very interesting example of rationalism, both in the interiors and exteriors, particularly in the public hall. The materials were chosen for their precious nature, but following the laws of the autarkic period. The facade was judged "naked and mute" by Marcello Piacentini and then decorated by the colorful mosaics by Gino Severini on his advice. The mosaic fascia is 37.8 m long and, with futuristic and cubist influences, illustrates from center left the evolution of the postal system, to the right that of the telegraph and the spread to the five continents of the world (in the side panels). In the left hand entrance is another mosaic by Severini and a mural painting by Giulio Rosso in what was once the original writing room.
