The River Po flows at the side and this restaurant in mountain chalet style celebrates all of the best of the food and wine of the Po Lowland. The road of the small hamlet ends there, at the car park.
As soon as you enter there is the bar counter, the two dining rooms are on the left. The large one, with the wooden arches, the large windows, the comfortable tables and well distanced from each other and the more intimate dining room. The restaurant is managed by the Papavero family, passionate about the gastronomic richness of these areas: the freshwater fish, the courtyard animals, the cheeses and the selected vegetables, the cured meats of their Fogliarina farmhouse that produce an exceptional coppa. You will begin from there and then on to the starters (€11) they offer with 13 alternatives: smoked goose breast, porchetta with gold onion confit, home smoked trout carpaccio, top blade in anchovy sauce and the classic marinated eel. The first courses (€11) risottos, pasta and soups: the pisarei and fasò, the gnocchetti with Castelnuovo Scrivia potatoes goat’s cheese and spinach, with strong flavours and perfect consistency, the hen tortelli with saffron and chives. There are also the pike-perch tortelli with Alpine butter, the pasta and beans of Molino dei Torti. Then (second courses €13) thinly sliced goose breast and excellent fried frogs, grilled trout and pike. The veal shank with rosemary is good, as are the duck with broad beans, guinea-fowl with Taggiasca olives, tench baked in foil, eel in a variety of ways. If you can fit in the cheeses it is a good thing, otherwise the desserts, to choose from the trolley: “Manuela’s recipe” apple accompanied by custard cream is unforgettable. Tasting menu: €40, €45 (fish) and €35 (vegetarian). A competent and reasoned wine list completes a truly exceptional offer. Well done!
