The town of Gavi is known for its white wine, cultivated in the hills surrounding the town, but also for the Fort and its medieval historic centre. The Fort of Gavi was built between the 16th and 17th century in the shape of a star-shaped polygon with six bastions joined by curtain walls, but underwent numerous interventions in the late 19th century when it lost its defensive function. Of sure interest for history enthusiasts and photography lovers for the magnificent scenic view. The parish church of San Giacomo, dating to the 12th century, was built in Romanesque style and preserves a large part of the original sculptural decoration, despite reconstructions from the Baroque period. The long domination of Genoa has left an unmistakable Ligurian imprint in the urban and architectural structure, such as in the painted palazzi, and in the customs and traditions of the residents, in particular in the food and wine. We cannot fail to mention the amaretti and the Testa in Cassetta di Gavi, a pork sausage and Slow Food Presidium. Gavi boasts an Orange Touring flag, as a recognition of the beauty of the town and surrounding hills.
