GRAVEL EXPERIENCE - PETAL OF TORTONA HILLS

Experience for gravel bike enthusiasts to discover the most fascinating dirt roads and unpaved roads of the area (length 143 km total climb 1250 m - from March to October)

This route connects Alessandria to the Tortona Hills, birthplace of the Champion Fausto Coppi. You will quickly leave the town climbing the hills of San Zeno, the Alps are visible on a clear day. Descend to an area rich in farmsteads and ideal for the adventurous gravel rider (recommended wheels minimum 40 mm). Arrived at the Scrivia, continue for the second part of the petal, or return to Alessandria. A long straight stretch gives the possibility to increase the average speed before crossing many small villages. Instead, crossing the Scrivia you enter Tortona and the route winds among narrow valleys, scenic balconies and Timorasso vines, the new star of the white wines of Piedmont. There are many stretches on unpaved roads, including the scenic stretches of the "Mitica", historical cycle race which attracts enthusiasts from all over Europe, as well as the beautiful climbs on tarmac of the Coppi
hills.
