Travelling by campervan is a fantastic way to explore Piedmont and enjoy the freedom of moving from place to place, remaining immersed in nature and local traditions.
Monferrato is a fascinating destination. The scenic roads with low traffic levels invite the visitor to stop at the villages and wineries to savor the wines and ancient flavors or get to know local craftsmen and traditions. And, why not, get a little lost among the gently rolling hills.

day 1
Day 1 Alfiano Natta /Tonco
Suggested experiences: Visit the Art and Wine Museum and relive the past following an historical route connected with the rural tradition of the area, capturing the traces of time hidden between the small and large details. A "leap" into the wine world of the past, to reach the late 17th century ageing cellars which are still in use. Visit the cellars and taste the wines and taste EVO oil. Monferrato has always been an area of olive orchards: abandoned in favor of vines, it has been recovered obtaining a production of high quality EVO oil.
Unmissable in spring in the village of Tonco is "La giostra del Pitu", one of the most curious events connected with the carnival in Piedmont. Horse race and ancient propitiatory rite to start the farming season.
From Tonco you can also experience an unforgettable and exclusive hot-air balloon flight over Monferrato.

day 2
Day 2 Portacomaro / Grana
Suggested experiences: hazelnut workshop to discover the Piedmont IGP hazelnut and prepare a delicious spread, picnic bundle included to enjoy in the hazelnut groves. We suggest visiting Casa dell'Artista in the ancient fortified area, a
cultural and artistic centre with art exhibitions and literary meetings.

Or a fun e-bike tour to discover the enchanting Romanesque heritage (Home - Romanesque Route) between Calliano Portacomaro Grana and Montemagno, stop off at a historical winery of Grana to taste the local iconic wines such as Ruchè and Grignolino.

For the more adventurous, off-road tour among the vineyards and picnic among the rows (in season and excluding the grape harvest).

In summer, in Calliano we suggest the agnolotto d'asino festival and in October the Paglio ragliante. This began as a a parody of the famous Palio di Asti and is an event with a colorful and entertaining historical parade.

day 3
Day 3 Moncalvo/Grazzano Badoglio
Experience days suggested:. Visit the Civic Museum of Moncalvo which is home to works by Chagall Guttuso and Orsola Caccia. In October, the centre transforms into the colorful White Truffle Fair with stands and tasting sessions dedicated to the king of the kitchen, the Tuber Magnatum Picum, and your visit will become a unique sensory experience.

In Grazzano Badoglio, visit the Abbey and the tomb of the legendary founder of the Marquisate of Monferrato. Do you know about the fantastical horse ride of our fearless Knight that lasted 3 days and 3 nights? Legend or reality? Visit winery and tasting.

day 4
Day 4 Vignale Monferrato / Fubine
Suggested experiences: Tambass Experience. Tamburello a muro or tambass is more than just a game, it is a celebration which brings together entire villages gathered in the 'sferisteri', the squares under the walls, a match with ancient and proud gestures and full of unmistakable sounds. Under the guidance of expert players you will participate in a lesson on the rules and use of the tamburello, the tricks for hitting the ball and throwing it as far as possible as you hold your breath looking upwards. Possibility to watch a professional league match of tamburello a muro (experience from March to July) depending on the calendar.

Tour of the infernots, a UNESCO heritage site: infernots are underground cavities located under the houses and built by hand. The marly rock in which they are dug keeps temperature and humidity constant throughout the year. Guardians of the rural tradition, they are pure engineering work and each is unique and different. The infernots which are open to visitors in the villages participating in the True Sound project are in Grazzano Badoglio, Ottiglio, Vignale, Fubine.

In Vignale, the Vignale Danza Festival and in Fubine, the municipal infernots and a visit to the Bricherasio Chapel are a must.

Truffle hunting (Unesco intangible cultural heritage) Truffle hunting in Monferrato is an experience to enjoy and to talk about all year long: between white truffle and black truffle it is possible to enjoy a themed experience all year. Everything is real and authentic, nothing is prepared and when the faithful truffle dog (tabui) starts to dig and agitate itself you will find yourself holding your breath and quivering with happiness. At the end, visit an excellent winery with tasting session.

day 5
Day 5 Altavilla Monferrato/Viarigi
Suggested experiences: Visit an historic distillery and discover the production phases, breathing in the scent of grape marc. The tour will continue inside the picturesque ageing room where the fine Spirit resting in high quality wooden barrels will be like poetry that engages the senses. Move to the emotional "Galleria della Grappa", an artistic set-up with historical bottles of spirits.

Followed by visit to Torre dei Segnali of Viarigi The tower is the symbol of the village, which also appears on the town's coat of arms; it was originally part of a series of observation and signalling stations between Viarigi, Montemagno and San Salvatore Monferrato. Since 1320, standing 25 meters tall, it has played the role of sentry to defend the ancient Marquisate of Monferrato.
