Bosco Marengo is a must-see cultural-tourism destination: it is home to one of the most important religious places of the territory built at the behest of the first Piedmont Pope, Saint Pius V, who came from this town. This is also where part of the battle that changed Napoleon’s fate was fought. Bosco Marengo has always been home to one of our favourite restaurants, opened by the Bondi family (already excellent producers of Dolcetto d’Ovada). You will be in the market square, to enjoy in summer with the outdoor dining area, in a cosy environment. What we present is an osteria with prices that are always reasonable and serves an intriguing menu to enjoy in the lovely dining room. The house wines are excellent.


Starting with the appetizers (€8), the genuine Piedmont tradition goes on show: bell peppers with bagna cauda, cauliflower fritters, asparagus cake and an excellent Fassone beef tartare. The clear identity of this zone that is the Fraschetta also emerges in the first course options (€10) which in the rabaton (you will find the best of the area) has its signature plate. Then the Boschesi agnolotti and the saffron and sausage rice. On summer visits, the tagliolini with baby squid and tomatoes. The second (€12) course options include ever-present boiled cow salami of Fraschetta with bell pepper sauce which are another symbol, next to the stewed stockfish, the Fassone cheek stew, the cima (veal roll stuffed with a mixture of eggs and vegetable served as a cold cut) of Genoese influence with green sauce, to finish with the fragrant fried anchovies. If you ask for the rabbit, baked or alla cacciatora, know that it will also be memorable! Finally, the desserts (€8) that include the polentino boschese, the cup of amaretti, the gianduia timbale with Barolo Chinato cream. Plenty of taste, plenty of substance!
