The Cathedral, dedicated to Santa Maria Maggiore, was probably built on the site of a preceding cultural building; the building that is visible today was begun in 1619, following the demolition of the old Romanesque church that was deemed too small to accommodate the population. The sober façade, which preserves the remains of a 14th century marble tomb next to the middle portal, was finished in 1890. The current flooring, the marble facings of the columns that delimit the naves and completion of the choir are also contemporary with the façade. The artistic heritage of the church includes, among others, a painting by Moncalvo (1620) dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary and a painting by the Flemish artist Gozner depicting the Virgin and the Saints.
The adjoining Museum showcases part of the large collection of silverware and fabrics established thanks to purchases and donations over the centuries.
