Probably built to counteract the Saracen incursions, it belonged to the Aleramici and then, in the 12th century, to the Marchesi del Bosco; a century later, it passed to the Malaspina of Cremolino when Agnese del Bosco wed Federico Malaspina. In the 14th and 15th centuries, the castle was partially destroyed and Bartolomeo Beccaria purchased the fiefdom in 1589. This was the best moment; the castle was enlarged and embellished.
The Spinola and Pallavicino families followed, lords until 1795; no restructuring work was carried out under their ownership until the castle was partially destroyed by the Spanish in 1646. The Fortified Tower, what remains of the ancient castle, has been restored by the municipal administration.

The "Limes Vitae" association opens it to the public, organizing moments of medieval life and historical re-enactments of great interest. Limes Vitae is a historical re-enactment association.
From the Latin "Limes Vitae": Life that unfolds inside the fortified compound. Set up on 1/02/ 2006, it is based in Morbello (AL), in the fortress of the same name. The purpose of the association is to spread the knowledge of the customs of Liguria and Piedmont, from the Roman era to the 14th century, to preserve the traditions of our lands with the purpose of spreading culture; the association makes available copies of works, documents, manuscripts and artifacts of the time.
The association promotes recreational and cultural activities: together with Limes Vitae you can rediscover the ancient trades and customs of our land, the medieval fighting between knights on the ground and on horseback, several siege machines, games, songs and dances which alleviated the hard life of our ancestors, what they drank and ate and even how they looked after themselves.
