This collection houses a selection of finds relating to ornamental and decorative items from public buildings and private housing from the Roman town of Libarna, thus providing a useful addition to the archaeological area.
The G.F. Capurro Collection (1810-1882), owned by the Accademia Filarmonica Artistico Letteraria of Novi Ligure, is composed mainly of fragments of capitals, cornices, architectural details and pieces of decorative tracing. Amongst the most important exhibits is the epigraph of Caius Catius Martialis (2nd Cent AD) and the central section of a marble pinax, decorated on two sides with the heads of Pan and Gorgon.
Amongst the most recent additions to the collection are a fountain decorated with marine images, two small erme and some examples of eating dishes and oil lamps. The most important find is the emblem in opus sectile, which formed part of the central decoration for a mosaic floor, dated 2nd Cent. AD.
