Built in 1413 at the behest of Marquis Paleologo Teodoro II Lord of Monferrato. The 24 m high tower is located at the top of 'tower' hill which stands at an altitude of 257 metres. It was built as an observatory and signalling point. The large hole that characterizes the south-east side is found precisely where the entrance was once located. The low construction nearby was once an underground storage tank.
During the Second War of Independence, in 1859, San Salvatore Monferrato was home to the general headquarters of the Piedmont army and from the top of the Tower King Vittorio Emanuele II followed the movements of the Austrian troops.
Text (first paragraph): San Salvatore in Rete.
