The site protects approximately 15 km of the riverbed of the Scrivia Torrent, between the outlet in the plain of Alessandria and the bridge of Tortona. The Scrivia Riverbed is one of the regional areas of greatest interest in terms of nature thanks to the significant variety of animals and plants; this can be traced back to the highly natural conditions of the wide riverbed and to its closeness to the Apennines, but also to the warm dry climate affected by Mediterranean influences. Access to the riverbed is only permitted by shared access roads that depart from the two provincial roads, one on the right and one on the left bank of the Scrivia.
