The site is situated at the extreme southeastern edge of Piedmont and borders with the Emilia-Romagna Region and with the Antola Regional Park, situated in the Liguria Region. It is located at an altitude between 593 and 1669 m and occupies part of the headwater of the Borbera Torrent. It is home to fine flora and fauna specimens (wolves and salamanders). The landscape is varied, characterised at times by gentle shapes, with wide valleys and rounded ridges, and at other times by steeply sloping hillsides where erosion gives way to typical gully shapes. An extensive and continuous forest occupies more than three quarters of the surface area. The forest vegetation consists mainly of beech trees, located at higher altitudes on the slopes, followed by chestnut, hop-hornbeam, turkey oak and downy oak. Meadows and grasslands are fragmented in areas of limited size, where sheep farming is still carried out. There are several itineraries which are part of the wider regional trail network. It is also possible to go horseback riding along marked routes.
