The Sanctuary of N. S. della Guardia, was built in less than four months in 1861, thanks to the work of the population of Gavi and the people of the neighboring towns. It rises on the peaceful hill of the Turchini, in sight of Gavi, and is a magnificent temple in the shape of a Greek cross with sleek and elegant shapes. The floor is made of high quality red marble of Levanto. There are three altars: one dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the other to the Wedding of the Virgin Mary while the high altar, topped by a splendid niche, welcomes the wooden statue of the Heavenly Guardian.
The story of the beautiful statue of N.S. della Guardia dates to 1746 when, under the gunfire of the Austro-Sardinian army, many houses went up in flames and a certain Giacomo Bertelli made a vote to Our Lady that he would build a chapel and a statue in honor of N.S. della Guardia if she saved his house.
