The oldest documented mention of the church of Tassarolo dates to 1143 when Pope Innocenzo III granted the monastic church of Tassarolo the "Liber-tas Romana", as reported by Muratori.
Between 1600 and 1635 it is presumed that the current parish church stood on the remains of a preceding one placed at the side of the old cemetery of the village, as shown by the corpus of the building which still exists on the right side of the facade, which presents a staircase in local sandstone called "pietra di Gavi".
The current building is the result of restoration work carried out in 1800, as is clear from a text by Rev. Don Rocco Bozzola in 1930 on the Register of the Balance Sheet, according to the dictates of the Circular of the Holy Congregation of 20 June 1929.
