The church was mentioned for the first time in a notarial deed of 21 September 1200. The church was under the diocese of Tortona, from 1248 it passed to that
of Genoa.
The current church was built in the second half of the seventeenth century. The priest Angelo Maria Pesciallo, who designed the building, inspired by the Church of Santa Maria delle Vigne in Genoa, was highly committed to its construction.
