The “Benedicta” (approximately 750 m a.s.l.) administratively belongs to the Municipality of Bosio and is situated in the Capanne di Marcarolo Natural Park (8216 ha, between 335 and 1172 m a.s.l.). It can be reached by the A26 motorway (Masone exit), the A7 motorway (Vignole Borbera or Serravalle Scrivia exit), the SS456 or SS35bis state roads. The Benedicta farmhouse is one of the most important sites in the history of the resistance of Alessandria and Italy. It was a Benedictine convent during the Middle Ages and centre of the Spinola family’s landed estate in modern times. It became the headquarters of the Partisan command of the 3rd Brigata Liguria in spring 1944: in April of that year, the Nazi-Fascists attacked the Partisans in force, killed dozens of young men, sent hundreds of them to concentration camps and destroyed the farmhouse.
