“Il Divisionismo" Pinacoteca Fondazione C.R. Tortona is a permanent exhibition that aims to document a season of significant importance in Italian art between the 1800s and the 1900s through the variety and originality of the pictorial languages used not only by the great Divisionist masters, but also by personalities who gave voice to so-called peripheral cultures that had been underestimated for such a long time.
The exhibition, comprising more than one hundred works, focuses on the fruitful dialogue between the different interpreters of a daring technique that was able to represent the demands of a new century: from the socially committed artists of the 1890s to the empirical approaches in the symbolist sphere and to the first essays of the protagonists of the futurist revolution.
Masterpieces by important painters, such as Giuseppe Pellizza, Angelo Morbelli, Plinio Nomellini, Gaetano Previati, Emilio Longoni and Giovanni Segantini, are linked and compared to important works of remarkable originality of lesser-known names, such as Benvenuto Benvenuti, Galileo Chini, Giuseppe Cominetti, Giovanni Battista Crema, Camillo Innocenti, Giorgio Kienerk, Enrico Lionne, Baldassarre Longoni, Serafino Macchiati, Cesare Maggi, Giuseppe Mentessi, Matteo Olivero, Angelo Torchi.
The precious collection of plaster casts by Luigi Aghemo, a sculptor from Pinerolo, has been added recently. It is open to visitors on the first Sunday of every month or by appointment.
