The Church of San Pietro, already documented in 965, underwent extensive restoration during the fifteenth century which did not disrupt the Romanesque style which it continues to maintain in the facade punctuated by pilasters and in the three-nave basilica interior with large semi-circular apse. The pieve preserves a precious collection of frescoes that date from the middle of the 15th century to the early 16th century and interestingly document the local figurative culture of the time. The apsidal basin is dominated by a Christ Judge placed inside an almond of large size compared to those of the remaining decoration and of the architecture that supports them; the landscape that surrounds it is rich in elements but lacks characteristics of depth and features the symbols of the four Evangelists and the figures of the Virgin and Saint Michael. The Apostles, painted in the lower part of the apse, are all depicted according to a single replicated pose without variations for twelve times; at the center of the Apostles, the figure of King David has recently emerged following the tear of the fresco of a Virgin with Child. The pilasters are decorated by a series of figures of Saints and Martyrs, including Saints Cosmas and Damian and Louis of Toulouse with Anthony from Padua.
The church is open to visitors on Saturday and Sunday from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. (October-April) or 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. (May-September)
On Feast days, the openings follow the scheduled times (Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, 25 April, 1 May, 2 June, etc.); it is recommended to check closer to the date for any variations.
