The palazzo rises where the medieval castle once stood. In the early 19th century, Count Celestino Tornielli purchased the area of the castle and had a palazzo built there. The Tornielli family are a noble family who had an important role in Molare, since the 16th century: secretaries, attorneys, Mayors of the Municipality, abbots, etc. The interior of the palazzo, in Neoclassical style, is frescoed with works by Ignazio Tosi (1811-1861), a painter from Ovada who is also responsible for the family portrait that is still visible in the hall of the ground floor. The visit takes in the rooms and the halls of the ground floor and the main floor. The two double ramp staircases that climb to the main floor are truly spectacular. The main reception hall is decorated with gilded stuccowork in 18th century style with eight niches holding vases with floral centerpieces and statues of Ganymede and Justice. The ceilings of the billiard room on the upper floor are frescoed. The ancient cellars, now used for events, are also visited.
The Palazzo has joined the project "Dimore Amiche del Piemonte" of ADSI Associazione Dimore Storiche Italiane (refer to the link provided and to the booklet attached).
