Palazzo Spinola del Borgo Nuovo of Rocchetta Ligure in the Borbera Valley was built as a summer residence of the Spinola family between 1666 and 1678 by Napoleon IV Spinola (1607-1683), lord of the fiefdom of Roccaforte Ligure, part of the Imperial Ligurian Fiefdoms. With the arrival of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1797 and the annexation to the Ligurian Republic it remained uninhabited and abandoned. It is home to the Town Hall and in 1990 it also became home to the Museum of the Resistance and Social Life. From 1999 to 2005 it was also the European headquarters of the Living Theater of New York, opened with contributions of the European Union.
