Palazzo Spinola in Rocchetta Ligure, seat of the Town Hall, is home to the Museum of the Sacred Art of the Borbera and Spinti Valleys and the “G.B. Lazagna” Museum of the Resistance and Social Life in the Borbera Valley.
The Museum of the Resistance was founded in 1990 upon the initiative of the town council with the support of the Regional Authority of Piedmont to provide an educational and information centre to get better acquainted with and relive a fundamental period of the recent past of the Borbera Valley. The Museum has a collection of images, photographs, weapons and ammunition, partisan and American uniforms, helmets and other items belonging to local partisans.
In addition, there is also an educational path formed by comic strip panels that in chronological order illustrate with texts and drawings the various phases of the War of Liberation, from 1943 to 1945.
The Museum of Sacred Art is a detached section of the Diocesan Museum of Tortona, inaugurated by Mons. Martino Canessa in 2009. The Borbera Valley has been studded with churches and oratories since medieval times, bearing witness to the faith and devotion of its inhabitants down through the centuries. The lack of protection of certain areas, without a resident parish priest, has made it necessary to plan the opening of a permanent collection in the Valley, creating an additional way of learning about the past of these valleys.
