Palazzo Rosso (Red Palace), called that way because of the color of the facade, was built starting from the second half of the 18th century and completed in 1825. The facade features a clock with three faces that mark the hours, the days, the months and the celestial vault with the North Star and the moon phases. At the top is the 'cockerel' which the people of Alessandria stole from the people of Casale in 1225. The building that can be seen today is the result of considerable reconstruction work following the 1944 bombings which destroyed the theater inside the palace.
