The church was built in 1604 by local worshipers. The first parish priest is elected on 23 May 1608, so it can be assumed that the church had already been completed by that date. The church is decorated slowly in the years that followed; the bell tower was built in 1700 and shortly after 1850 a real vault was added. On 13 October 1862 the parish is established as a provostry by Mons. Andrea Charvaz.
