The vicissitudes of the church of the small hamlet begin in 1575, when Mons. Ragazzoni, apostolic visitor, grants the licence to build the parish church for the inhabitants of Castello and Cerreto. However, due to a shortage of funds the church is built only a century later by the Abbot Giò Batta Maiocchi, related to the Rati Family. And for these he retained the right of patronage.
A plaque on the facade dated 1684 recalls the year of construction of the
church.
