The symbol of the village of Masio, which makes its appearance unmistakable, is the ancient medieval tower of the 12th century, declared a national monument. The monument is 27 meters tall and together with several parts of the imposing ramparts that remain, it was part of a large fortification existing in the 14th century.
Following completion of the internal restoration work in 2013, the Museum "La Torre e il Fiume" was set up, a fascinating vertical route that tells the story of the tower of Masio and of the towers of the area (construction, life in the tower, defense, siege). These constructions were born as a symbol of the power of the municipalities in medieval times and are now characterizing elements of the landscape. The museum route continues, renewing the strong link with the Tanaro, which dominates the landscape of Masio, to terminate with the exit to the top of the tower and admire the river and hills of Monferrato and the Alessandria plain.
