largo dei Minatori - 15033 Casale Monferrato (AL)
Casale Monferrato stood out in the 1900s as Lime and Cement capital of Italy. It has the merit of having been the first town in Italy to develop the industrial production of cement, thanks to the richness and quality of the monferrato marl suitable to produce natural cement, without the addition of corrective materials.
The many historical testimonies of cement production in Casale Monferrato include the Parabolic Silo and the Furnasetta.
The Furnesetta represents more important evidence of industrial cement archaeology. The Furnasetta Marchino, lime kiln built in 1872, is the first production centre of the cement plant of Ditta Marchino, transformed in 1912 into a lime burning kiln. The Furnasetta is a perfectly preserved example of lime burning kiln, today a national monument. It is formed by a single main chimney and the use of brick prevails. It is the last kiln present in Casale Monferrato.
Can only be visited from the outside. Special openings and visits are organised at certain times of the year.
