Giovanni Verdese, a.k.a. Canelin, is greatly admired by Luigi Veronelli and Gianfranco Vissani. He is a full-fledged nougat king who has been making nougat in Visone d'Acqui for more than half a century, personally selecting the hazelnuts (only Hazelnuts from Piedmont and local honey), following each "cotta" step by step.
He has received certificates and awards for his art, such as the Faccino d'oro by Papillon in 1994, and the international prize Risit d'Aur by casa Nonino in 2002. In his artisan workshop, he also makes amaretti, Easter eggs with chocolate and crumbled nougat and nougat ice cream in summer.
