Solero participates in the foundation of Alessandria and has followed its history and events ever since. The town was destroyed several times by various passing armies starting with that of Federico Barbarossa, until the early 18th century when it passed under Savoy rule.

The original building of the current Castello Faa' di Bruno was a residence of the branch of the Guasco family of Solero, who had acquired the fiefdom in the early 16th century - several sources assume that the construction took place between 1670 and 1675. Upon the death of the Marquis Ludovico Guasco in 1784, ownership passed to the daughter Maria Giacoma Clotilde, who had married the Marquis Faà di Bruno, taking the castle of Solero as dowry. Following a period in which the castle is relegated to occasional residence, a new season of work began in early 1854 with Emilio Faà di Bruno, cadet son of Marquis Luigi, who undertook the work which gave the castle its current look. Purchased by the municipality of Solero in the early 1970s, today it is a venue for catering, exhibitions and events; the park offers a picturesque setting for shows during the summer season.
