The village was disputed between Asti and Vercelli until it came under the definitive control of Monferrato in the 13th century; travelling the road towards the parish church there are traces of the ancient walls, of which the entry portal and the watchtower remain.

The Sacred Mount of Crea, whose realization conditioned not only Serralunga but also the surrounding neighbourhood, is situated in a splendid panoramic position and is a UNESCO heritage site. It rises on a place of ancient Marian devotion and was built between 1589 and 1612, with a further construction phase in the 1920s. It is composed by the Sanctuary, 23 chapels and 5 hermitages that wind along the devotional route (photo of the cover) immersed in a Nature Reserve.
