The village stands on the left bank of the Orba stream. Towards the late 1300s Predosa is part of Gamondio (now Castellazzo Bormida). In the 15th century the center is a source of contention for several noble families such as the Sforza, Spinola, Visconti who transferred the fief to the Beccaria family, becoming an outpost for the Milanese to contrast the presence of Monferrato on one side and Genoa on the other. In 1707, the village was definitively annexed to the Savoy State. Through the centuries and particularly during the 1700s many armies took possession of and ravaged the area: not just Italians but also French, Spanish and even the Russians during the Austrian-Russian reconquest of 1798.
