Ponzano Monferrato passed under the control of the Marquises of Monferrato in the thirteenth century. The village is known for its castles and stately homes, which preserve majestic gardens and parks: the Castle of Ponzano, which preserves the ancient crenellated tower; the Castle of Salabue, which dates back to the mid-fourteenth century; Villa Larbel, seventeenth century residence built in neo-Classical style. The current construction of the Parish Church of San Giovanni Battista was built on the remains of the preceding Romanesque church.
