The municipality of Occimiano is situated at the foot of the Monferrato hills. The village has had a glorious past: in 1647, the Spanish undermined the fortifications: during the Second War of Independence, it was the meeting place of Vittorio Emanuele II and the French Emperor Napoleon III. Occimiano features a centre with porticoes and the imposing Parish Church of San Valerio, originating from the 15th century, with a 19th century facade.
