Masio is situated on the right bank of the River Tanaro, on the borders with Asti.
The symbol of the town, which makes its look unmistakable, is the ancient medieval tower of the 12th century, declared national monument. The Tower is 27 metres tall and with some remaining parts of the imposing ramparts, it was part of a vast fortification work in place from the 14th century. Following restoration works, the interior is currently home to "The Tower and the River" museum.
There are two key religious buildings: the Parish Church of San Dalmazzo, built in Gothic style in the 14th century over the remains of an ancient Romanesque structure (some traces remain in the roof frame), and the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena (patron of Masio), recently restored, which hosts an important polychrome altar in plaster by Solari.
In the centre of the town, visitors can admire the Monument to the Soldier Poggio, artilleryman awarded a gold medal in 1860, known as "the man without arms", about whom Edmondo De Amicis wrote a book.
Close to the village is the important Castle of Redabue, which has maintained the structure of a small fortified almost independent village, with its farmhouses, the park, and a church of Juvarra. Today it is used for private events. The hamlet of Abbazia recalls the ancient presence of a Benedictine monastery.
