The Church of Beata Vergine Assunta was built in 1628, after the previous church, named after Saints Pietro and Paolo and already standing in 1383, was torn down. Castelspina is home to the Mother House of the Franciscan Angeline Sisters, built in 1883, founded by a friar from Castelspina, Father Innocenzo Gamalero and by Mother Chiara Ricci (nun for whom the beatification process has begun); inside, it preserves the painting of Our Lady who hovers over the village, donated by the Genoese painter Federico Ferrari who spent the last years of his life in Castelspina.
