The village stands on a peninsula, a slight elevation, formed by the confluence between the Rivers Tanaro and Po. Until the middle of the last century a ferry crossed the Tanaro, replaced in 1961 by a bridge. The River Po flows, surrounded by dense woods, and divides into numerous canals. The Church of Santo Stefano Protomartire is the parish church of Bassignana; the first stone of the current church was laid in June 1833; the new church, in Neoclassical style, was completed in 1837. The Evangelical Methodist Church, built in the early 20th century, continues to bring its testimony to the Piedmontese evangelical scene.
