The Church of Sant' Alessandro is one of the best examples of Baroque in Alessandria. The first stone is laid on 9 September 1742, and the church is consecrated on 7 May 1758. Initially it was dedicated to Saints Alessandro and Carlo. Sant'Alessandro is identified with Alessandro I, the pope and martyr at the time of Emperor Trajan. The other saint is identified with San Carlo Borromeo who was canonized in 1810.
