The territory of Castelnuovo Scrivia belonged to Pavia and then to Tortona, before becoming the fief of the Torriani family after which it became a free town; it was then transferred to the Visconti, was later occupied by the Austrians and finally, in the 1700s, by the House of Savoy. Of the old castle, remain the square tower crowned by false Ghibelline crenelations and parts of the wall on which the praetorian palace was built in the 14th century. The main facade is characterized by a pointed archway surmounted by two mullioned windows. Historical documents record the presence of two other castles.

The Castle is part of the Castelli Aperti event.
