Located at the top of an alluvial terrace which overlooks the plain, the Castle of Pozzolo Formigaro was built around the eleventh century for defense purposes. The front entrance, dating to the Sforza period, retains the carriage entrance and the grooves for the drawbridge. It is now the town hall and, inside the fifteenth-century wing, visitors can admire the exquisite fifteenth-century frescoes by the Tortona school of brothers Franceschino and Manfredino Boxilio (Madonna with Child, Saint Lucy, Saint Blaise, Saint Francis), "ripped" from the Church of S. Sebastiano (today Nostra Signora delle Ghiare) and a wooden Madonna of the fifteenth century.
