Castello di Cereseto
History & Culture
15020 Cereseto (AL)
Private property.
Built in the first decade of the 20th century, according to the eclectic style that comes from the studies of Viollet Le Duc and Italian architects D'Andrade and Nigra. It was built at the behest of famous financier Riccardo Gulaino who shared this ideology at that time. The complex has a monumental dimension engaging a large number of workers who brought life and development to the village of Cereseto.
Admiring this enormous and complex building, thought unequivocally captures the tormented issue that animated both client and designer. We recall that as he wrote his biography a few years later, Riccardo denied the value of the work that he himself had realised, lavishing large economic resources.
The majority of the furnishings dating to that fascinating historical period have been sold or robbed. In some cases, decorations on the walls, ceilings and vaults have remained. In some cases, these decorations are ingenuously simple, in others they bear witness to the particular taste of the time.
Outside bas-relief of the Rectory.
