The “Cascina Belvedere 1932” Farming Company was set up in 2018, but is deeply rooted in the past. A notarial deed of sale for the plot of land, historically called “vignavegia” dated 1580 – Notary Giacomo Solario – stored in the State Archives of Genoa, confirms cultivation of the vine before the 16th century. The Podestà Family has been producing wine here since 1970 when Emilio, father of the current owner, purchased the property comprising a farmhouse and 2 hectares of vineyards. Initially managed with the purpose of satisfying the sole needs of the family, the cultivation of the vines and the production of wine has always been the prevailing activity. In recent years, the current owner Riccardo, together with his wife Elisabetta and children Robert and Jessica, has dedicated himself full time to the wine growing activity with a clear qualitative leap, in both the management of the vineyards and in the work processes in the winery. The property is located in the Municipality of Mornese, in the province of Alessandria, on the border with the region of Liguria, along the steep hillside slopes that meet between Ovada and Gavi. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 350 metres a.s.l. Of the six hectares of the current property, two are planted with Barbera, Dolcetto, Cortese, Chardonnay and Pinot Nero vineyards, exploiting excellent exposure and particularly suited soils, characterised by white earth (clayey calcareous marl). The vines are grown in full respect of the environment and ecosystem, following the rules of organic farming (The Company is currently in the phase of organic conversion).
