The Vecchia Cantina Sociale of Alice Bel Colle and Sessame d’Asti was opened on 1st August 1956 by a group of winegrowers who joined forces to process grapes together and to enhance and market the wines produced. The production facility is 6 km from Acqui Terme, in Southern Monferrato, the area of origin of prized aromatic wines such as Moscato and Brachetto. The Winery has approximately 400 contributing shareholders and covers an area of about 900 hectares of vineyards. The key variety grown and vinified is the white Moscato grape (approx. 60%). The remaining 40% is composed of other autochthonous varieties such as Brachetto, Barbera, Dolcetto and Cortese. Casa Bertalero, of the Vecchia Cantina di Alice Bel Colle and Sessame d’Asti, is a building that dates to the late 19th century; there is a Museum of Moscato which has remained intact with Dutch rain filters, hand presses and other equipment used at the time which can be visited. Casa Bertalero also includes the store “Vino e non solo vino” and the Naso e Gola restaurant.
