Big Bench no. 231 of Ottiglio called "Sun bench" is a yellow-blue colour in honour of the village coat of arms. It is in the area called Madonna dei Monti, a scenic point which can be reached by going out of the village and climbing the highest hill of the area. From the Big Bench you can admire the surrounding landscape, including the Sacro Monte di Crea (Holy Mountain of Crea), until you catch a glimpse of the Vercelli plains with the Alps as far as Monte Rosa. The Big Bench faces south-east to be able to admire the sunrise.

How to reach the Big Bench

> by car or by bike:
enter the village, pass through the main square and continue on for Grazzano Badoglio, turn right for Madonna dei Monti. Car park along the road at the sides of the bench.

> on foot:
from the square, follow the arrows for Sentiero di Don Gino (Don Gino’s Trail). The trail has two variants: the more demanding is indicated by red arrows and the easier one by green arrows. The green variant can also be traveled by bike.

It is one of Chris Bangle’s Big Benches, which have become an emblematic symbol of Piedmont, inserted into the BIG BENCH COMMUNITY PROJECT (BBCP) designed to support local communities, tourism and the artisan excellence of the towns in which these large-scale installations are located. BBCP is a non-profit initiative promoted by the American designer and his wife Catherine, resident in Clavesana since 2009, to join the creativity of the team of designers of Chris Bangle Associates S.r.l. with the artisan excellence of this area of Piedmont.
The Big Benches often come to people’s attention through photos, but once you sit on one and enjoy the
view as "if you were a child again" the experience is intense, to be shared with others. The benches have been made to relax in; unlike a chair or an armchair, they are wide enough to fit one or more friends. Sitting on one equates to a pleasant social action and the vision behind the BIG BENCH COMMUNITY PROJECT is to make good use of all the positive energy that the Big Benches emanate.
